Sophie Walton is the Group Director of Academic Engagement at the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), which is a UK based technology innovation centre and the process arm of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. Sophie has been a key member of CPIs Management Team since 2011 and prior to her current position worked for 8 years within the business in senior commercial and operational roles – predominantly supporting the development of CPIs National Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefinery Platform. Throughout this time Sophie has worked in the innovation space to help stakeholders to prove the concept of disruptive, technological inventions by bringing together academics, funders and supply chain partners in complex consortia programmes. Before joining CPI Sophie worked in a variety of other commercial roles for Millipore Bioprocess (now Merck Millipore) and VWR International. These roles required close collaboration with partners to overcome regulatory, technical and economic issues which challenged their manufacturing businesses. Sophie holds a First Class degree in Biology and holds Advisory Board positions on several BBSRC and EPSRC programmes.
